We are sorry to report the death of Marie Garrett, a well respected and popular figure in the world of cross country in the North East.
Marie, alongside her husband Bill, was involved in the sport over several decades notably as an organiser of the Northern Women’s Cross Country Championships.
Marie’s funeral will be held at St Helen's Church, Belle Vue Bank, Low Fell, Gateshead , NE9 6BR on Thursday 31st May at 10.00am followed by cremation at Saltwell Crematorium. Saltwell Rd South, Gateshead, NE8 4TQ
Refreshments will be served afterward at Carlton Club, 11 Belle Vue Bank, Gateshead, NE9 6BQ. All friends are welcome

Marie was the finance officer for the Northern Counties Cross Country during my term as team manager. She was a wonderful person to work, counting every penny but generous with help and advice. Along with her husband Bill they give a lot of time and effort to the sport

Sad news indeed. Marie was a lovely lady who it was always a pleasure to meet and talk with, not least because of her well balanced personality and temperament. Sincere condolences to her family.
